The Urban Bead Play
Interactive installation, touchscreen, 2iPod touch, programming
Technical support: Seul-Gi Oh and Eun-Kyu Lee, 2011
The image of the roads in Seoul seems like they are connected to on another like a net. The interactive installation, which metaphorizes that we are like the beads on this net, makes the audience owners of the very beads. Each bead has its own light – if it shines its unique light on another person’s, the light will be reflected on it, which may lead it to shine the reflected light to yet another bead. If the bead containing the light emitted by the previous one gives this light back to the first bead, it will take on a new light while not losing its original light. In this way, the beads are connected as causes and effects to one another, reflections to one another; the next on which the beads are placed is also composed like a neural network. The environmental data are interlocked and visualized in real time.
Body Network
Multi-channel media façade & data visualization
Technical support: Seul-Gi oh and Eun-Kyu Lee, 2011
The human body is a complicated network, but has evolved so much that the substances required by our body can be made through the three-step chemical reaction on average. This work was created based on the notion that the most efficient network inside the human body can be applied to future internet design. The data about pollutants, such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone and fine dust, are sent to 39 weather stations in Seoul each hour by the Air Quality-Climate Change Information Service of Seoul(Korea Environment Corporation). The neural network was utilized to visualize this data. If the images are sent to Seoul Square - Hanbit Media Park - Sangam DMC Nuridream Square simultaneously, they are circulated in a triangular cycle. This structure is visualized. Expressed differently depending on the characteristics of each façade, Body Network shows changing images according to the ppm of pollutants, and diverse circulatory structures inside itself as well.
